Alpha Kappa Alpha & PSI CHAPTER HISTORY

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded January 15, 1908 at Howard University, Washington, DC. It is the first Greek lettered organization established by and for women.  The purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to be of service to all mankind.

Psi Chapter of Benedict College was charted at Benedict College on March 22, 1947 along with Mu Chapter of Allen University, under the auspices of the graduate chapter Gamma Nu Omega.  It is the first Greek lettered organization to be chartered at Benedict College.
